#MustRead: Prayer Takes Wings by Thetus Tenney

If I mentioned everything I loved about this book, this post would be a half-mile long. Instead, I’ll stick to the highlights and hope they’ll be enough to ensure you it’s a literary masterpiece. Of all the reviews I’ve done, over more than a decade of blogging, this one ranks as a permanent favorite and I feel quite privileged to present it to you.

You see, I got this book last Spring, while I was recovering from an emergency surgery, and digesting the news that I had cancer, that I was facing several more surgeries, invasive procedures, and many weeks of daily radiation and chemotherapy. 

It was a rough season, yet it overflowed with blessings!

I was physically weak and much of the time feeling sick and having to stay on anti-nausea and pain meds. Still, the Lord encouraged me and provided everything I needed for the multitude of daily trips to the hospital for treatment and doctors’ appointments.

If I wasn’t getting therapy, or traveling to the city for medical purposes, I stayed isolated (to prevent risk of infection) and spent most of that time in bed.

It was the perfect time for the Lord to direct me to Thetus Tenney’s book, Prayer Takes Wings.

By the end of the first chapter, I was still frail in body yet empowered in spirit and my faith was roaring like a lion!

​I read the book through, savoring every paragraph. As I read, my faith, joy and gratefulness overflowed. There were times I had to just lay the book down, and let the tears flow. They were happy tears, and tears of gratitude and amazement at the matchless love and power of Christ Jesus and the effectiveness of the host of Heaven He deploys to assist us.

​Tenney’s work is concise, well researched and well edited. Her elite background in education, both in the US and abroad shines through her work in Prayer Takes Wings, as does her relentless faith in God and love for people. 

As a woman who has endured many hardships, she developed common ground with multitudes of people. The struggles birthed an increased understanding and sensitivity to those others enduring trials of their own. Thetus Tenney is a woman who has suffered heartbreaks, yet walks in joy.

I only review books I love. I never suggest books that failed to make an impact with me. This book easily qualified for impact.

It’s my hope that if I’ve failed to interest you to invest in it, that perhaps you’ll know someone who is need of strengthening and encouragement. In the very least, this book is full of exactly that, and much more! It includes real life interactions with the supernatural, with real life individuals--just like me, you and everyone else.
