It’s a small church, in a small town, with a congregation of about 30 members. It may not be a mega-church, but it's definitely BIG on blessing!
This year, 2022, included having 151 boxes filled and ready to ship before Thanksgiving. By Christmas, 75 boys and 75 girls will receive the blessing of a box filled with wonderful items, via one of my favorite missionary efforts, Operation Christmas Child. Harmony Chapel has been a part of this effort for the past eight years. If you’re not familiar with Operation Christmas Child, please have a look at the vid below and you’ll understand why this ministry is so important to its recipients.
Operation Christmas Child is one of the outreach efforts of Samaritan’s Purse, whose mission statement is as follows...
Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

December kick-off
The preparation for the boxes begins each December, when Harmony Chapel starts collecting the supplies needed to fill the boxes for the next Christmas.
“We put three toothbrushes, a bar of soap, a washcloth, a school pouch (five pencils, two ink pens, crayons, eraser, pencil sharpener, notepads), chalk, a cup, a comb, a pair of socks and a sling backpack into each box. The girls get a hygiene kit, sewing kit, hair scrunchie, and this year, a tee shirt and alternate shirt. The boys get a tennis ball, cards, checkers, blocks, gloves and a fishing kit. This year, they also get either Legos or marbles.” (Jeannie Mayes, of Harmony Chapel)
If you would like to be a part of this annual blessing, it's easy!
If you're not able to shop for supplies on the list, you can make monetary donations via mail to P.O. Box 233, New Harmony, IN 47631, with checks made out to Harmony Chapel. Physical items can be donated to the church in person at 531 Steammill, in New Harmony. Click here to get in touch via their Facebook page.
Brenda Straw, a lifelong member of Harmony Chapel, wished to extend the thanks of the entire congregation to all who have helped their efforts in making Operation Christmas Child an annual success! You are appreciated!
Here are a few snapshots of boxing endeavors for 2022... Sell what you have and give gifts to the needy. Make for yourselves purses which don’t grow old, a treasure in the heavens that doesn’t fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Thanks for your visit today!
Hope this amazing and dedicated little church will inspire you, to like them, be a consistent and sincere blessing to others! You'll get back far more than you give! 'Til next time, Happy Thanksgiving and shalom!
