A while back, I was praying at my desk, after wrapping up the morning’s Bible study. After praying for a few situations and people, I asked the Lord for some specific help with my camper-renovation project. I live in the guest quarters of my sister and brother-in-law’s home, but the camper is what I’ll be using for remote work during the day hours, and nights when needed.
Although I’ll maintain a residence in the house (it’s a big house), the camper will be my part-time quarters (when needed) and full-time work studio. The renovation has been a slow yet rewarding process, but some aspects of it, I’ve needed help to get started, or complete. A pressing need has been for new steps. The camper is nearly 50-years-old. It’s metal, pull-out steps are sagging and putting me and my visitors at risk for falls. I’d shored them up with a wooden platform and some paver stones, but it was a temporary fix and not a great one. I priced new steps and will eventually get some, but will have to wait until I clear out a few other things on the build priority list, like water storage and electricity. So, I asked the Lord for help in providing some safe steps for me and my guests.
A short time later, I left the house to run some errands in the city with my friend Vicki. Our little village is a good 30 miles from the city, so we carpool when we both have business there, when possible. Vicki is a good friend and neighbor, who visits me often and much of our time is spent in the camper, when the weather isn’t fair enough for us to be outside.
My rig (named Blessing) is parked in a small section of our front lawn, intentionally facing Touching Fire’s paddock. Fire is my sister’s rescued mare, and we parked the camper so that I could easily see her and her pen while working. She inspires me. I glanced toward the rig, out of habit, as I came down the stairs and immediately noticed something different that surprised me enough to light up the whole yard with the biggest grin on my face. A new set of steps were sitting near the camper door! Wooden steps, perfectly measured to fit exactly as they needed to be! I’d prayed for help with getting new steps only an hour earlier and there they were!
Please pardon the taped hatch-doors, the scrap wood and Savitch’s (my cat) extra litter box, stowed under the rig. Once a couple more things are squared away in the cabin, those things will have a new home.
I was so excited about the stairs-gift I immediately called my sister to tell her to tell her they’d arrived, and then left to pick up my friend, Vicki. When she got in the car a few minutes, later, I was immediately giving her the run-down about how I’d prayed just a short while ago and came out to see new, hand-crafted stairs in place at Blessing’s door! She laughed and said, “I already know. Charlie (her husband) built them on Sunday and he placed them earlier this morning.”
I don’t believe in coincidence. The Lord knew exactly what I’d be praying for and exactly when I’d be asking for it.
God is attentive to both small and big challenges in our lives. He’s our provider and through my friend Charley, He delivered a much needed miracle, literally, to my front door. "12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 1st Peter 3:12 WMB
Shabbat Shalom!
